Proof Foundation Hosts 4th Annual Candlelight Vigil For Rapper

(WWHH NEWS) The Proof Foundation will host its Fourth Annual Candlelight Vigil & Tribute Show in honor of late rapper Deshaun "Proof" Holton, who was shot and killed five years ago during a dispute in a Detroit bar on 8 Mile Road.

Proof will be honored on Monday (April 11th) during the annual candlelight vigil at 4:00PM at the Rosa Parks Freedom Chapel on the grounds of Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.

Family and friends will gather to remember Proof through stories, poetry and inspirational words.

Later on in the evening, a variety of rappers will perform Proof's tracks in a tribute performance at The Shelter.

Artists like Chino XL, Miz Korona, Moe Dirdee, Rio Data, Seven The General, V Stylez, 5 ELA, Supa Emcee and R&B artist Melanie Rutherford will hit the stage during the evening, while DJ Sin, DJ Jewels and DJ Henhouse will host the event.

Proof's mother Pepper Holton created the non-profit Proof Foundation in July of 2007 to honor Proof's legacy, to help promote education throughout the Detroit school system and to provide financial aid to students attempting to go to college.

The Proof Foundation is taking applications for its first $1,000 scholarship, available to high school seniors in Detroit for the 2011/2012 academic school year.

Scholarship applications must be postmarked by May 30, 2011 and a scholarship winner will be announced in August.
