Album Charts: Lil Wayne Tops Billboard 200; VMAs Give Beyonce, Tyler Sales Boosts

So, it's official Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV lights up the Billboard 200, coming in at #1 and beating out a new album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Weezy's latest installment of his Tha Carter series sold 964,000 in its first week, 300,000 of which were sold digitally through iTunes.

However, the Billboard 200 saw a lot of movement from other artists who got boosts from their appearances at the 2011 MTV VMAs.

Beyonce, who announced she was pregnant during her performance of "Love On Top," saw her 4 album return to the top 10 with 39,000, up 87% from last week; while Bruno Mars, who celebrated the late Amy Winehouse in a tribute segment, jumped from #37-32 with Doo-Wops & Hooligans; and Tyler The Creator, who surprised many by winning the Best New Artist honors, jumped from #102-48 with his Goblin album.

Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne slips from #2 to #4 with 80,000 sold, taking htem to 787,000 total; and The Game's The R.E.D. Album fell from the top spot to #8 this week with 39,000 sold.

And, closing out the top 20 is Eminem and Royce Da 5'9's Bad Meet Evil project, Hell: The Sequel, landing at #19 with 18,000 sold, as they hit gold sales.

Outside the top tier is new projects from YMCMB's Watts representer, Glasses Malone; and a new album from Slim Thug's Boss Hogg Outlawz.

After a long wait, Glasses release his long awaited debut, Beach Cruiser, via a joint release with Cash Money Records and indie powerhouse, Suburban Noize. However, it got off to a slow start, debuting at #165 and moving 2,700 copies. The LP features Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Mack 10, Birdman, and Lil wayne.

Houston, Texas' Slim Thug and his Boss Hogg Outlawz released their third studio album, Serve & Collect Part 3 (Immahogg), and it comes in at #191 with 2,400 copies sold. The group consists of J-Dawg, as well as Le$, Mug and Dre Day.

According to Billboard.com, overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Sept. 4) totaled 6.65 million units, up 29% compared to the sum last week (5.14 million) and up 27% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (5.22 million).
