Lil Wayne Breaks iTunes' Single-Week Sales Record With 'Tha Carter IV'

Less than three weeks after Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative LP, Watch The Throne, broke the U.S. iTunes single-week sales record, Lil Wayne surpasses the duo before they can even celebrate.
Weezy's new album, Tha Carter IV, has sold over 300,000 downloads, via iTunes in the first four days of its release, reportsBillboard.com, surpassing the 290,000 Watch The Throne did last month in its entire first week.
While Jay and Kanye's strategy saw Thronehit digital retailers four days before it landed in stores as a physical CD, Wayne dropped his CD and digital version the same day.
Overall, the album has scored the second-highest first week sales numbers of the year, selling 964,000 and landing at #1 on the Billboard 200.
Only Lady Gaga's Born This Way sold more this year, hitting 1.1 million in its first week.
"Wow!!!!!!!!!! I have the best fans in the universe! I thank u all. Hard work and dedication pays well. Young Mula baby!(weezy voice)," Wayne said in a tweet (@LilTuneChi).
A full run-down of this week's Billboard 200 will come later today.
