Lil Wayne just can't lose, can he? Fresh off reports of Tha Carter IV selling nearly 1 million copies in its first week, the YMCMB rapper hit a new milestone as well, by leading all artists with a record-breaking 18 nominations at the upcoming 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
Weezy scored nods at the upcoming show, set to tape in Atlanta on October, in several big categories -- including Lyricist of the Year, MVP of the Year, and Video of the Year for his contribution to "I'm On One" and "Look at Me Now".
For MVP honors, he is up against his Young Money protege Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Kanye West, and newcomer Wiz Khalifa. And, for Best Hip-Hop Video, Weezy is up against Big Sean's "My Last," Eminem's Rihanna-assisted "Love The Way You Lie," and Kanye West's "All of the Lights."
Trailing Weezy is Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa, who tied with nine nods each; Rick Ross follows with eight; and Chris Brown nabbed six nomination.
Minaj is the only female rapper to be nominated this year, landing noms for Lyricist of the Year, and CD of the Year for her breakthrough debut, Pink Friday.
CD of the Year honors goes to Big Sean with Finally Famous, Lupe Fiasco with Lasers, Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday, Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Wiz Khalifa with Rolling Papers.
The sixth annual BET Hip-Hop Awards will be taped at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on October 1, and will air on BET on October 11th.
Actor/comedian Mike Epps will serve as host for the third year in a row.
